May 15th COVID-19 Update:

The past few months have affected all of our lives in unanticipated ways. At 100 Fold Studio, we have been monitoring the COVID-19 Pandemic situation very closely in order to understand how our Summer Studio program would be impacted. The primary goals in responding to the Pandemic are to ensure the safety of the Summer Studio participants and staff and to do our part to limit the transmission of COVID-19 in the state of Montana.

While Montana is in a phased “re-opening” process, it currently remains under a “State of Emergency” declaration from the Governor.   The declaration requires a 14-day quarantine period conducted by each out-of-state visitor. In order to truly mitigate the risk of transmission, each person entering the state would need to self-isolate in individual rooms and cannot come into contact with anyone else for the duration of the 14-day period.

We have looked into various locations to run the Summer Studio Program, but have not found one that could meet our requirements for self-isolation, meals, and lodging, or host the full duration of our program.

The logistical difficulties in identifying a safe and appropriate host location have led us to make the incredibly difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Summer Studio Program.  We do not plan to run a remote or virtual summer program at this time.  In the event that we do provide limited virtual programs as part of the broader mission of 100 Fold Studio, we will contact you with ways to participate.

The transition from academia to professional practice is a challenging adjustment. Understanding the trajectory of different career paths is important, and Summer Studio provides a space for reflection and guidance. Its vision is to develop and champion leaders in service and design.

Summer Studio explores how Christian principles can inform a career in architecture. Speakers from around the country will share their expertise on design, business, and world missions. Lectures, small groups, and one-on-one mentorship will focus on faith and vocation. The Studio culminates with a small design/build project for the local community. Each participant has the potential to earn 250 AXP hours toward NCARB’s requirements for licensure.

The Montana-based Summer Studio Program takes place on the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) campus in Lakeside, which is located on the shores of Flathead Lake and the foothills of Glacier National Park. U.S. citizens interested in this program are encouraged to participate as service members through AmeriCorps. Along with opportunities to explore the beauty of Montana, Service members will focus on developing environmental design strategies to create and construct a project impacting the local community. There are 13 AmeriCorps positions available. “100 Fold Summer Studio changed the trajectory of my life and career. It has also helped change the atmosphere in our architecture studio at UVA: there is a Christian professor who has become more open about sharing his faith because there are more students [involved with] 100 Fold.”

“Summer Studio is the place where I became a true follower of Jesus.”

“The Lord really showed me how much fear I have in failure, in not being accepted, and in identity struggles, that I had swept under the rug. He really used this community to redeem those things for me. I’ve learned so much more about architecture by learning about the Lord first!
